Yknow what? Fuck it, I was looking for a post about it and realised I can just make my own.
People saying Jack Black’s new YouTube channel is proof he’s part of some “reptilian government” or really anything about him that talks about him being related to anything reptilian is blatant antisemitism. Jack Black is a Jewish man. His mother is an ethnic Jew, his father’s a Jewish convert and he’s a practicing Jew raising his children Jewish.
And anyone who’s going head to head with the antisemites posting that stuff who say it’s “silly alt right conspiracies” or in any way belittles the reptilian stuff without acknowledging it’s antisemitic roots should Absolutely be held accountable for learning about why it’s antisemitic and arguing against it. You’re trivialising things used against Jews to harass and oppress us, and you need to stop, get educated, and care about Jews.
This goes a thousand fucking times more because he started the channel with the stated aim of unseating a Nazi sympathizer.
The collapse of a garment building in Dhaka, Bangladesh, killed over 300 people. This factory made clothing for a number of western brands, including Joe Fresh, a Canadian company. Bangladesh has the lowest labour costs in the world, with the national minimum wage at $38 a month.
Here are just a few things to look for when buying clothing if you are concerned about the ethical side of it, though its not easy:
A strikingly low price on an item of clothing might suggest that it’s the product of sweatshop labour, but it’s not a precise indicator, as there are many conditions that could lead a store to settle on a sale price.
One of the best signs that a garment was not made in a sweatshop is a union label; UNITE is an international union which makes sweatshop free clothing, for example. Look for a label which is clearly sewn into the garment, as some unscrupulous merchants may add union tags to garments produced in sweatshops. You can also also seek out clothing with fair trade labels.
Fair trade consumer goods are a great consumer choice because the supply chain is short and tightly controlled.
Thanos is a weak ass bitch of a villain because ever since killmonger I need all my villains to pull up with some style, looks, a certain je ne sais quoi. Killmonger stole a thousand year old artifact and wore it as armor and wore solid gold fangs. What did Thanos wear? The same body armor for hundreds of years and a dumb glove that wasn’t even designer
People are all like “he’s an alien” like so was Hela and she pulled up with some iconic goth looks, Chanel horned helmet, a beautiful smokey eye, nails that could cut diamonds, Thanos has no excuse fashion is universal
Our antifascist social media collective has been trying to document the most egregious acts of violence committed by fascists and the racist extreme right over 2018. In the past year, we’ve documented more than 300 incidents of fascist violence, including 59 shootings, 32 arsons, 33 stabbings, 21 bombings, 11 car attacks, 3 kidnappings, an acid attack, and over 150 mob beatings or individual assaults. These acts of violence resulted in 113 deaths and more than 400 people injured. This was a 300% increase over the number of violent incidents we documented in 2017; the number of people murdered by fascists doubled over the deaths we documented last year; in 2018, we documented 5x more people injured in fascist & extreme right attacks than in the previous year.
We compiled the details of each violent act on a searchable map. Each pin includes a link to the media source covering the incident in question.
26% of victims in these attacks were targeted because they were or were perceived to be LGBTQ+. 14% were targeted because they were black; 11% were targeted because they were or were perceived to be immigrants or refugees. Jews and Muslims each comprised 10% of the victims. When trans people were the subject of an attack, the probability of them surviving was just 20%.
This is in no way a complete list of fascist and extreme right violence. We limited our list to incidents where someone was harmed or there was a real potential of physical injury or death. And we only recorded incidents we could document. This means that our work shows only a small sample of hate crimes committed every day. It does not capture events that were not reported by the media and does not include serious harm to people or events where damage to property was not accompanied by a real potential to harm people. Although we speak several languages, we were also largely limited to finding accounts in the languages we understand, which means that large parts of the world are not covered here. Finally, the fact that we are all volunteers and did this with absolutely no funding for research means that it is entirely likely that we failed to capture hundreds if not thousands of incidents of fascist and extreme-right violence.
We’d like to thank ProPublica for their Documenting Hate initiative; Human Rights Campaign for their efforts documenting violence against LGBTQ+ people; Luigi Mastrodonato for his work documenting hate crimes in Italy; and the team behind the Hate Crime Watch project at factchecker.in for their work documenting hate crimes in India. If you are reading this and finding that we missed serious hate crimes committed where you live, we encourage you to follow some of these examples and start documenting and publicizing what’s going on in your area.
As antifascists we will continue to expose, oppose, and confront fascists using every means at our disposal to stop them until the list of their victims drops to zero. Anti-fascism is self-defence and protecting our communities from fascist violence is why we fight.
It’s cute when people claim that Lovecraft was racist because of the era he was born in. Dude was the most prolific letter writer in American history. We have letters from other racists asking him to tone down the racism. The man was considered breathtakingly racist by the people of his own time.
imagine how racist you have to be to be known as “that racist guy” in a time that was already extremely racist
